It works on a radio frequency of 448 kHz, does not pierce the skin, does not use needles or surgical procedures, and after the treatment you immediately return to your duties.

However, “safe for most people” does not mean “safe for everyone.” There are conditions in which we should not perform the treatment and conditions in which we make a decision only after discussing it with you.

In this article, we go through all the contraindications, explain which reactions are normal after treatment, and answer the questions that our clients most often ask us.

How does INDIBA work?

For the contraindications to make sense, it is necessary to understand the principle of operation. INDIBA passes a very high frequency current (448 kHz) through the skin, which creates a gentle, controlled heat in the tissue and stimulates the natural processes of cell renewal. We wrote about this in more detail in the article What are INDIBA treatments?.

Precisely because the treatment uses electricity and heat, there are situations in which we do not recommend it.

Absolute contraindications: when we do not perform the treatment

INDIBA treatment is not an option for the following conditions:

Electronic implants. Pacemaker, defibrillator, insulin pump or any other implanted electronic device. Radiofrequency can interfere with their operation and this is the strictest contraindication of all.

Pregnancy. Treatments are not performed throughout the entire pregnancy, regardless of the region of the body. After childbirth, INDIBA is, on the other hand, an excellent choice for recovery, which we wrote about in separate article.

Active malignant disease. Treatment is not performed for a diagnosed tumor or for those undergoing treatment. After treatment is complete, a doctor's consent is required.

Thrombosis and thrombophlebitis. Heating the tissue in the area with the clot carries a risk and there are no exceptions.

Open wounds and active skin infections. The skin in the area to be treated must be intact and healthy.

Fever and acute inflammation. We postpone treatment until the condition calms down.

Relative contraindications: when we decide individually

Treatment is often possible for these conditions, but only after we review your history and seek a doctor's opinion if necessary:

Reduced sensation of heat. For example, in diabetic neuropathy. Your heat feedback is part of the treatment control, so the therapist needs to know if the sensation has changed.

Severe heart disease. Stable, controlled conditions are usually not an obstacle, but we make the decision with your cardiologist.

Skin diseases in the acute phase. In the case of rosacea, dermatitis or psoriasis on the treated area, we wait for the skin to calm down and adjust the intensity.

Recent cosmetic procedures. If you have recently received fillers or Botox, we will wait in that area for the agent to stabilize. We will set an appointment together during the consultation.

And metal implants?

This is one of the most common misconceptions. With classic radiofrequency devices, metal in the body can be a problem, so many assume that this also applies to INDIBA.

INDIBA at 448 kHz is specific in this respect: the manufacturer allows it to be used in areas with metal implants, endoprostheses or dental implants, with the adaptation of the working technique. That is why INDIBA is also used in physiotherapy after the installation of an artificial hip or knee. It is only important that the therapist knows about the implant before starting.

Side effects: what is normal after treatment?

INDIBA has no recovery in the classical sense. After treatment, you can drive, work, and train. The reactions that may occur are mild and short-lived:

Feeling of warmth on the treated area, which subsides within an hour

Mild skin redness, a result of increased circulation, disappears in an hour or two

Thirst, so we recommend drinking more water on the day of treatment

That's all. If you ever notice anything that deviates from the above, contact your therapist, but in practice, even these mild reactions are often barely noticeable.

Does INDIBA cause cancer?

A frequently asked question that deserves a clear answer: 448 kHz radio frequency is non-ionizing radiation. It does not damage DNA and cannot cause cell mutations, which is significantly different from, for example, X-ray radiation. The technology has been used in medicine for decades.

We covered the entire topic of security in detail in the article Myth or truth: are INDIBA treatments harmful to your health?.

What does the check-up look like before the first treatment?

Before your first treatment at MBC St. Mary's, we complete a short questionnaire about your health: chronic illnesses, medications, implants, recent procedures. It takes a few minutes and based on it, the therapist confirms that the treatment is safe for you or suggests adjustments.

If you are not sure whether any of the listed contraindications apply to you, the simplest thing is to ask us. Consultations are free, and you can reach us by phone at +385 95 5476 704 or via web query. We work in Zagreb, Split and Zadar.

Frequently asked questions

Does the INDIBA treatment hurt?
No. There is a pleasant warmth, and most clients describe the treatment as relaxing.

How long does one treatment last?
Depending on the region being treated, between 30 and 60 minutes.

Can I have treatment during menstruation?
You can. Menstruation is not a contraindication, although some clients prefer to skip abdominal treatments on those days for their own comfort.

Can I go out in the sun after the treatment?
Yes, with the usual protection. INDIBA does not damage the surface layer of the skin, so there are no special restrictions on sunbathing.

How often are treatments done?
In the beginning, usually once or twice a week, and later the intervals increase. The exact rhythm is agreed upon during the consultation.

INDIBA is safe for most people, but not for everyone.
