But preparing your skin for the beach starts long before you lay in the sun, and not because of the color, but because of everything the sun does to your skin in the long term.

Here's how to prepare, protect and preserve your skin throughout the season, without complications.

A week before: prepare the ground

Gentle exfoliation. Remove dead skin cells to ensure an even tan. After exfoliation, be sure to moisturize.

Boost hydration. Well-hydrated skin tolerates the sun better and burns more slowly.

Postpone aggressive treatments. Chemical peels and laser treatments should not be performed immediately before sun exposure. INDIBA is an exception to this, as it does not damage the surface layer of the skin, so there is no ban on sunbathing.

On the beach: rules that pay off

SPF 30 or higher, applied 20 minutes before sun exposure and renewed every two hours, and after each swim.

Avoid the sun from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A tan is also built up in the later hours, only more slowly and more safely.

Don't forget your ears, neck, feet, and scalp. The most frequently burned places are the ones that everyone skips.

Water by the deck chair. Skin dehydrates faster than you think.

After the beach: 10 minutes that make a difference

Take a lukewarm shower to remove salt and chlorine, and while your skin is still damp, apply lotion or oil. This will help retain moisture in your skin instead of letting it evaporate. If your skin is red, cold compresses and panthenol can help, and skip the sun for the next few days.

Why is the effort worth it?

About 80 percent of visible signs of skin aging are due to the sun, not age. Wrinkles, age spots, and sagging skin are mostly the result of unprotected sun exposure. That's why protection is the cheapest anti-aging treatment there is.

And if your skin has already taken its toll from previous summers, there are treatments that stimulate collagen renewal and restore skin firmness.
