Sunscreen in the bag, towel ready. But getting your skin ready for the beach starts long before you lie in the sun, and not because of your tan, but because of everything the sun does to skin in the long run.
Here's how to prepare, protect and look after your skin through the season, without overcomplicating it.
A week before: prepare the ground
- Gentle exfoliation. Remove dead cells so your skin tans evenly. Always moisturise after exfoliating.
- Step up hydration. Well-hydrated skin copes better with sun and burns more slowly.
- Postpone aggressive treatments. Chemical peels and laser treatments shouldn't be done right before sun exposure. INDIBA is the exception, because it doesn't damage the surface layer of the skin, so there's no ban on sunbathing.
At the beach: rules that pay off
- SPF 30 or higher, applied 20 minutes before going out in the sun and reapplied every two hours and after every swim.
- Avoid the sun from 11am to 4pm. A tan builds in the later hours too, just more slowly and safely.
- Don't forget your ears, neck, feet and scalp. The places that burn most are the ones everyone skips.
- Water by the sun lounger. Skin dehydrates faster than you think.
After the beach: 10 minutes that make a difference
Rinse off with lukewarm water to remove salt and chlorine, then apply lotion or oil while the skin is still damp. That locks the moisture in instead of letting it evaporate. If your skin is red, cold compresses and panthenol help, and skip the sun for the next few days.
Why is the effort worth it?
About 80 percent of visible signs of skin ageing are caused by the sun, not by age. Wrinkles, pigmentation spots and loose skin are mostly the bill for unprotected sunbathing. That makes protection the cheapest anti-ageing treatment there is.
And if your skin has already paid the price in previous summers, there are treatments that stimulate collagen renewal and restore firmness. Read how the INDIBA anti-ageing facial ili nas pitajte na besplatnim konzultacijama u Zagrebu, Splitu i Zadru na +385 95 5476 704.
