You slept eight hours, and a colleague still asks in the morning if you're tired. Dark circles have that annoying habit of making your face look exhausted however you feel. And the more concealer you use, the more they show.
Where does the colour of dark circles come from?
Dark circles don't have one cause but three possible ones, which is why they look a little different on everyone:
- Blood vessels showing through thin skin: a bluish or purple tone. The skin under the eye is so thin that blood vessels show through, and it gets even thinner with age.
- Pigmentation: a brown tone, common in darker skin types and made worse by sun and rubbing the eyes.
- Shadow from a hollow: losing volume under the eye creates a hollow that casts a shadow in overhead light. It isn't colour, it's geometry.
What makes dark circles worse?
Lack of sleep and allergies increase blood pooling, sun deepens pigment, rubbing your eyes does both, and dehydration and weight loss deepen the hollow. Genetics, unfortunately, sets the starting point.
What realistically helps?
For pigmented circles, SPF and vitamin C skincare help. For vascular ones the key is better circulation and thicker skin: a cream can't do much here, but treatments can. INDIBA boosts microcirculation, speeds up drainage of pooled blood and lymph and stimulates collagen, so the skin under the eye gets thicker and the vessels show through less. For shadows from a hollow, it is exactly this renewed skin density and support that makes the difference.
We compared this approach with fillers and PRP in our article on the modern approach to treating under-eye circles, and you'll find the full guide on the page how to get rid of dark circles.
